- Hello Elizabeth, the 1478 feature a waterproof leather and elastic and should be okay to go straight into wearing without treatment as they are a pre-treated boot. After about 3-6 months of wear they will need to be conditioned and cared for to help maintain their life. You may also spray them with a waterproofing solution at the beginning of each winter season if you wish to help improve waterproofing. Thank you!
